2025 ACTIVITIES
The Jerry Smitherman Scholarship Team, consisting of Lydia Locklear, Stacy Radmore, and Victor Elk, presented the scholarship to high schools on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation during the week of October 1, 2025. This scholarship is available to two students from Pine Ridge Reservation who wish to attend the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The team met with students, counselors, and principals. The scholarship is open for application for the fall of 2026.
Heart Bridge of the Carolinas volunteer team traveled to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation on October 1, 2025, partnering with Families Working Together, to host a medical mission for the families of the village of Wanblee. During the time in Wanblee, members of the team measured the students attending Crazy Horse Elementary School for new winter coats and snow boots. These will be ordered and mailed in October.
June - July we had our 3rd annual Blanket Drive for the families of Wanblee, SD on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Our blankets have provided much needed warmth for families. We purchased heavy-duty queen-sized blankets for families to be given out at Families Working Together at Christmas. Families will receive a blanket provided by Heart Bridge of the Carolinas along with gifts from Families Working Together in early December.
