One Spirit is an all-volunteer worldwide group that seeks to help the Oglala Lakota tribe of Native Americans achieve happier, healthier lives, within the context of their remarkable and unique history and culture.
We work in partnership with the citizens of Pine Ridge Reservation to fulfill their vision of a self-sufficient and independent future. Our programs are dedicated to providing the tools and employment to bring healthy food, fuel, and cultural support to a tribe that suffers severe nutritional shortages in a food desert, lacks employment opportunities (almost 90% unemployment), and facilities to support children and the elderly culturally and in providing better living circumstances.
We employ the Lakota oyate (people) to deliver food support to large numbers of Lakota families monthly and through a system of food pantries. Our firewood support pays Lakota to cut, split, and distribute firewood and improved wood stoves, which is a main source of heating in poorly insulated homes during the frigid South Dakota winters on the Pine Ridge Reservation. We funded the construction of the Charging Buffalo Meat House, which enables the harvesting and distribution of buffalo and game meats around the reservation, and soon will gain USDA certification, allowing products to be sold off the reservation. This will provide income and employment to more Lakota.

The people of Allen take pride in themselves and work to improve their lives. Heart Bridge started a partnership with the Allen Youth Center in 2017, by adding Allen to the 2017 youth coat drive. School supplies were shipped from members of the Lumbee Tribe of Eastern North Carolina. Heart Bridge has collaborated with American Horse Elementary School in Allen for the fall school term to provide backpacks and school supplies.
One Spirit, a humanitarian organization, built a Youth Center in 2015 and now provides financial support for the operation. Heart Bridge contributes to the Fuel Program operated by One Spirit and contributed to the summer youth program for youth on the reservation held at the youth center.
All the above has been made possible with your contributions, it is not how much we give, it your ongoing contributions that allows Heart Bridge to help meet the needs of children, we give thanks for you.
